How to Cook Grief Stroganoff
A little recipe for the Holiday woes
Hello Sketchbugs,
Since Thanksgiving is this week, I thought it would be best to share another recipe comic. It’s been sitting in my drafts for a while and felt appropriate to finish this month. I apologize for not posting as much and will have a special surprise for my Sketchbuds very soon! Anyhow, please enjoy this heartfelt, somewhat snarky comic! For other recipes, please check out How to Cook Tense Tilapia and How to Bake Existential Bread.
In all seriousness, I’ve been dreading the upcoming holidays this year. This is the first Thanksgiving as an adult orphan and it is hard not to feel depressed and jealous at all the people my age and older with parents who are still alive. I thought this comic would be a productive, fun way to express these complex feelings as well as give a little laugh to all of us who have lost loved ones, are not in contact with loved ones, and/or don’t have a good relationship with their very much alive loved ones. Shoutout to all of you and know we are all making some grief stroganoff this season.
For the last few years mom and I used to get a peking duck instead of a turkey and eat it with homemade brownies. Dark chocolate of course. While this week will be packed with many wonderful meals with friends and my partner’s family, I will be making some of mom’s brownies to honor her. If your lost loved one had a Thanksgiving/ Holiday tradition, feel free to share it in the comments. And know that I’m giving you a hug during these hard times.

Snarky but still very poignant. It also sounds like a delicious meal. xoxo
It was equally funny and nostalgic. Big hug dear Julie, and hopefully the loved ones that are still here will make this season a little bit sweeter
